Emerging economies often face severe challenges with under- and overnutrition during their rise to higher income levels, and Egypt is no exception. Addressing this “double burden of malnutrition” effectively with policies and targeted interventions is complicated by the multiple causes of malnutrition that cut across sectors and ministries, especially food and health. An additional complication is often the lack of sound data and research that allows for determining the key country-specific causes of malnutrition, based on which national nutrition strategies and policies can be designed.
This seminar will take stock of nutrition data and existing policies in Egypt and provide insights on a potential way forward for Egypt to reach its nutrition goals as committed to in the country’s Vision 2030 strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
