On February 12, 2019 the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) hosted the Validation Workshop for discussing the findings of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus Assessment Study for Sudan in Khartoum. The above video is a reportage by Sudania 24 (in Arabic) highlighting the event outcomes and interviewing Khalid Siddig, a Senior Researcher at the Chair of International Agricultural Trade and Development of Humboldt-University of Berlin.
The Water-Energy-Food Nexus study formed part of the Nexus Regional Dialogue (NRD) in the MENA region, co-funded by the EU and BMZ “Nexus Dialogues Programme” and aims to align national strategies, policies and implementation plans with a national Nexus framework as an operational guidance to Sudan. The study contextualized the Water-Energy-Food Nexus within the natural resource availabilities as well as the needs for water, energy and food security and environmental sustainability in the country, and identified suitable Nexus opportunities, institutional settings, governance structures and needed policy reforms. The assessment was conducted by a team of experts from Humboldt University of Berlin, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the University of Khartoum. Input from relevant high-level experts was considered in this assessment, thorough a national Nexus dialogue conducted in October 2018 in Khartoum.
