The seminar supports USAID’s Agribusiness for Rural Development and Increasing Incomes (ARDII) project’s objectives.
In partnership with the National Nutrition Committee & the National Nutrition Institute
“Research to support the 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative: Lessons learned and actions for improving nutrition in Egypt”
The 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative aims to raise the awareness of Egyptians to the importance of their health, through screening adults for Hepatitis C, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity; and school children for anemia, stunting and obesity. This has drawn attention to the importance of healthy food and diets and their relation to non-communicable diseases, including obesity.
In order to provide scientific evidence to support the uptake of findings of the 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative for national policy and strategy formulation, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in collaboration with the National Nutrition Committee (affiliated by the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology) are organizing a series of three seminars as part of the IFPRI Egypt Seminar Series.
This third and last seminar in the series aims to initiate a dialogue between governmental and research institutions to explore the interrelationships between food and health as well as highlight the role of nutrition-sensitive food systems to address malnutrition and its health consequences.
With a priority setting focus, this seminar will directly involve a panel from the government to share, in accordance with the respective competency of each ministry and its mandate: a list of priority activities, ongoing programs and planned interventions to enhance the current status of nutrition in Egypt and or interventions that are being envisaged to specifically address findings revealed by the 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative.
