Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Senior Communications Specialist, for a one-year, renewable appointment in its Egypt Office. The successful candidate will work with the Communication & Public Affairs (CPA), the team at IFPRI HQ, and other research support activities related to IFPRI’s work in the Middle East and North Africa region focused exclusively on CPA-related issues.
The position is based at IFPRI’s Egypt office located in Cairo. The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the IFPRI Egypt Program Leader but will be employed directly by IFPRI’s organizational host in Egypt, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Area (ICARDA). The employer of record will be ICARDA and employment policies, compensation, and benefits of ICARDA will apply to this position. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in Egypt.
Essential Duties:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Communication and Content Development
- Updating and monitoring IFPRI Egypt content and mentions on social media.
- Developing research highlights for the Egypt SSP website
- Assist with drafting content that distills research results, lessons learned, and outcomes and impacts for various platforms (e.g., print, web, social media), including blog in collaboration with researchers and issue briefs that cover topics ranging from gender and nutrition to food systems in coordination with IFPRI Egypt researchers.
- Posting material to the IFPRI Egypt SSP website, including identifying and securing approval for relevant cross-posts, photo- and logo-use.
- Liaison connection and communication between IFPRI Egypt staff and CPA and other CGAIR centers in Egypt
- Contribute to IFPRI’s promotional efforts and outreach, tools include, social media (and livestreaming), press, bilingual website, collaboration with other country/regional offices, other CGIAR centers, virtual roadshows, partnerships with universities and research centers in the region, etc.
- Create and maintain MENA Output database, records include, publications, events including IFPRI-Egypt Seminar Series, IFPRI’s blogs, AFNS Blogs in English and Arabic.
- Communicate research output and plans as well as visibility statistics to Country Program Leader, team members and HQ &produce Quarterly Newsletters.
Event Management and Hosting:
- Webinar platform management, sending invitations, and creating event webpages.
- Assist IFPRI researchers in accomplishing the tasks related to the virtual seminars, workshops, and events held by IFPRI Egypt.
- Posting and promoting the event on social media in collaboration with HQ and stakeholders to document webinar outputs (video, podcast, presentations and papers) and key policy recommendations.
- Communicate deliverables with IFPRI researchers and partners.
- Coordinate with IFPRI Partners for mutual approval and success of these events.
Proofreading, Editing and Translating.
- Proofreading and formatting scientific reports, discussion papers, presentations, policy briefs/notes and other materials as needed, in English and Arabic.
- Posting blogs on IFPRI Egypt website on regular basis, and announcing it using the social media platforms
- Translating content from Arabic to English and vice versa.
- Proofreading of the translation done by other translators when needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with more than five years of relevant work experience or master’s degree with two years of relevant experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities and keep track of the details.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior researchers and external partners.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; proven ability to be flexible in a team-oriented environment with diverse groups of people.
- Efficient, flexible, and able to quickly adapt and adjust work to resolve pressing issues.
- Highly proficient with computers and related software, including Team Webinar hosting platforms, and various social media platforms and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to share and communicate key findings with key stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience and/or interest in international development, economic, nutrition, agriculture, environment, and/or global health.
- Experience in photo-retouching, video editing and/or graphic design with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
- Experienced with photography and excellent visual design skills.
- Familiar with Google Analytics, Mailchimp, WordPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Vimeo, SlideShare, YouTube, Google Doc, video editing and streaming software,
- Proficiency in French is a plus.
