The Launch of Mahsoly Price Monitoring Feature

Overview

Digital transformation in agriculture has the potential to revolutionize farming activities and value chains by providing farmers better access to information, resources, markets, and tools. Innovations range from real-time weather updates and crop management tools to providing market information and access to markets. Digitalization is set to transform the way farmers work, leading to improvements in farmers productivity, efficiency, and livelihoods.

In an effort to promote public private partnerships in the field of digital agriculture innovation, IFPRI with support from USAID through the Evaluating Impact and Building Capacity Project, collaborated with Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR), to build and implement a new tool with ‘Mahsoly’, a promising Egyptian private startup company established in February 2021 in the Agritech field that owns a mobile application that serves thousands of Egyptian farmers.

IFPRI worked with Mahsoly to develop and customize a new price monitoring tool to be an added feature on the homepage of the mobile application to provide marketing and price information to farmers in Egypt. The objective is to make this tool the go-to resource for farmers to access timely and accurate market and price information on their agricultural products during any business transaction they conduct. In addition, data collected through this mobile application will also benefit other stakeholders in Egypt, including MALR, whereby data on prices can be utilized by policy makers to monitor prices and inform marketing and agricultural policies.
