Background
Despite the increasing global efforts to address hunger and malnutrition, unhealthy diets are still a key driver of malnutrition worldwide, with 3 billion people unable to afford healthy diets. The need to transform our food systems to ensure sustainable, healthy diets for everyone is more urgent than ever. Achieving meaningful change will require implementing high-impact, evidence-based solutions that are adaptable, dynamic, and equitable to fit specific contexts.
This event will be dedicated to the General Feeding Program implemented in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The general feeding program seeks to empower impoverished Egyptians by providing them with monthly food packages to alleviate hunger, eliminate malnutrition, prevent non-communicable diseases, and improve the Egyptians’ quality of life. The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) and Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD) look forward to increasing know-how on the best interventions when combatting malnutrition and hunger in Egypt. to. Experts will share key insights, challenges and recommendations stemming from the GFP impact evaluation. The presentations will be preceded by a panel discussion comprised of nutrition experts from different sectors and will be followed by a Q&A session.
