Background
Despite the increasing global efforts to address hunger and malnutrition, unhealthy diets are still a key driver for malnutrition worldwide, in which 3 billion people can’t afford healthy diets. The need to transform our food systems to ensure sustainable, healthy diets for everyone is more urgent than ever. Achieving meaningful change will require implementing high-impact, evidence-based solutions that are adaptable, dynamic, and equitable to fit specific contexts.
IFPRI’s 2024 Global Food Policy Report outlines strategies to improve diet quality and nutrition in low- and middle-income countries. It emphasizes the need for diets that benefit both people and the planet, exploring demand-side approaches, affordability, and stronger food environments. Bringing together nutrition and diet experts from research, policymaking and development domains.
