Launch Event: Impact Evaluation of Social Protection Programs
Building on successful collaborations and lessons learned from impact evaluation projects, the Egyptian Food Bank's (EFB) Growth Lab, The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD) are jointly launching a seminar series: “Bridging Evidence and Policy (BEP)”, covering various topics relevant to informing public policy through research and impact evaluation. The launch event “Impact Evaluation of Social Protection Programs” addresses venues through which impact evaluation informs policymaking with a focus on social protection programs in Egypt, bringing officials, researchers, implementers, and NGOs together to share major findings and options for the future.

Food Price Shocks and Diets among Poor Households in Egypt
Because of its dependence on food imports, Egypt is particularly vulnerable to the high world food prices and trade shocks triggered by Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Imports account for more than 40% of Egypt’s calorie consumption, and the country is the world’s largest importer of wheat, with about 85% coming from Russia and Ukraine before the war began
