IFPRI EGYPT Seminar: Fertilizer policy in Egypt and options for improvements

The seminar aimed to discuss the effects of Egypt’s fertilizer subsidies system in Egypt and its impact on the agriculture output in terms of quantities and nutrition, as well as their medium- and long-term effect on the land productivity. In light of the government of Egypt’s effort to move from general subsidies to more targeted support for the people, for example in the area of energy subsidies and social protection, the seminar also focused on discussing alternative policy options which would address fertilizer overuse.

In support of the strategic goals of the "100 Million Health" initiative, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) held the second seminar in a series of seminars co-organized with the National Nutrition Committee (affiliated by the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology). The IFPRI Egypt seminar, "Research to support the 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative: Food availability, access and consumption patterns in Egypt", took place at the National Nutrition Institute (NNI) on March 24, 2019.
Launch of IFPRI 2019 GFPR: Opportunities for Revitalizing Rural Areas in Lebanon
The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) hosted two exciting consecutive launches on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. The first session was the launch of the IFPRI 2019 Global Food Policy Report: Revitalizing Rural Areas in Lebanon and the second was the soft launch of the World Bank Group (WBG) DigitalAG4MENA Competition.

The success of nutrition-sensitive agricultural interventions in countries in the Middle East and North Africa has not been examined in much depth. To narrow this knowledge gap, a smallholder farm household survey was conducted in six governorates in Upper Egypt in April and May 2018 following the winter cropping season.
