The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in partnership with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Fragility, Conflict and Migration (FCM) initiative organized a policy seminar titled “Towards Advancing Children’s Nutritional Intake: Taking Stock of Evidence-based Effective School Feeding Programs in the Middle East and North Africa”. The seminar presented findings from a recent randomized controlled trial, funded by partners from the private sector including HSA Group, and Tetra Pak, on the effectiveness of school feeding programs (SFPs) in emergency and humanitarian contexts.

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) 2024 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR)outlines strategies to improve diet quality and nutrition in low-and middle-income countries. It highlights the necessity for diets that are beneficial for both individuals and the environment, examining demand-side strategies, cost-effectiveness, and the enhancement of food environments.. The report serves as a platform to address the pressing challenges faced by the world today, underscoring the significance of healthy diets in combating all forms of malnutrition. Malnutrition remains a major issue, significantly affecting children and leading to conditions such as obesity and various diseases. Its effects are felt both in the short and long term, resulting in numerous deaths attributed to malnutrition. In recent years, there has been a growing commitment to improving nutrition. Accordingly, the report seeks to identify sustainable, healthy diets—those that provide essential nutrients for a healthy life while also considering environmental impacts.
The Launch of Mahsoly: New Price Monitoring Tool for Smallholders
To promote public private partnerships in the field of digital agriculture innovation, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) funded by the USAID under the Evaluating Impact and Building Capacity (EIBC) project, partnered with an Egyptian local agri-tech startup called “Mahsoly” to launch a new price monitoring feature in Mahosly’ s mobile application, in a launch event held on 5 June 2024, in Cairo, Egypt. The launch event titled “Launch of Mahsoly: New Price Monitoring Tool for Smallholders” was attended by high level representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, donor organizations, academic, researchers, and experts in the field of agriculture.
