Scaling Up Nutrition Yemen

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains the worst in the world. Nearly five years of conflict and severe economic decline are driving the country to the brink of famine and exacerbating needs in all sectors. The disruption of official markets, currency fluctuations, rising commodity prices and the diminished ability of the public to purchase basic food needs are some of the key issues that need to be addressed.

On August 28th, 2018 the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), in collaboration with the American University in Cairo (AUC), launched the 2018 Global Food Policy Report. The event was attended by a number of high-level government officials including the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Raclamation as well as members of the academic community in Egypt.
The video (2:20 hours) explains the concept of food and nutrition security and related concepts in development policy analysis. It provides an overview of common indicators for assessing food security and nutrition in developing country populations and discusses their computation and survey data requirements. Presented examples of data sources are taken from recent household surveys in Yemen.
Not all farmers are the same and they have different needs, so the policies and investments have to vary as well, wide data collection is therefore necessary to develop models that suit the different needs of farmers.
