The Yemen conflict, underway since early 2015, has led to an ongoing, unprecedented humanitarian emergency. Food needs far exceed current consumption levels, with 3.5 million pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 5 suffering from acute malnutrition and up to 19 million people affected by food insecurity in 2022.
COVID-19 FOOD POLICY RESPONSE MONITOR FOR EGYPT
The IFPRI Egypt Strategy Support Program (ESSP) is responding to the COVID-19 crisis by providing evidence-based information and analysis. As part of these efforts, IFPRI ESSP has launched the COVID-19 Food Policy Response Monitor for Egypt. The Food Policy Response Monitor provides an overview of key food policy responses in a tabular format and is updated regularly.

Global food, fuel, and fertilizer prices have witnessed rapid and significant increase in recent months, driven largely by the fallout from the ongoing war in Ukraine and associated sanctions im-posed on Russia. Other factors, including governments’ responses and export bans, have also con-tributed to rising prices (Laborde and Mamun 2022). Palm oil and wheat prices increased by 56 and 100 percent in real terms, respectively, between June 2021 and April 2022, with most of the in-crease occurring since February 2022.
