Overview
Climate change is increasingly influencing food safety risks and the burden of foodborne diseases (FBDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This is a major issue as many governments and individuals in LMIC have limited adaptive capacity, resulting in significant morbidity, mortality, and economic losses. However, evidence linking climate drivers to foodborne disease (FBD) related health outcomes remains fragmented across climate science, food systems, and public health disciplines. This project addresses that gap by aligning with Wellcome Trust’s Climate & Health framework, studying the pathway from climate change to exposure to health outcomes, and co-defining a research agenda that leads to actionable adaptation priorities that increase overall social value. This 12-month project will include desk-based research, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and workshops in Egypt, Senegal, Kenya, and Malawi.
